The Age of Apocalypse
- = 1995 = -

As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Age of Apocalypse storyline, I remember running to the store every week to gather up each and every issue that this story effected.  I read them with great intensity.  I read them over with great intensity.  I wondered how each story was created and how it was all brought back together.  But perhaps the main lesson out of this story is: One person can make a difference.  And in this case, Charles Xavier made the difference, and a world without him turned out severely different than the one we know.

So lets take a look back at the Age of Apocalypse:

The Legion Quest

The year is 1995.  Legion decides that Xavier’s dream would come true if Magneto never became a villain.  The only way to stop Magneto would be to kill Magneto in the past.  Legion creates a time portal and goes 20 years into the past, taking Storm, Iceman, Psylocke and Bishop with him.

Issues:

  • Part 1 - Uncanny X-Men #320
The X-Men are called to Isreal, where Legion is hiding out.  Once the X-Men arrive, Legion teleports into the past, and sucking Storm, Iceman, Psylocke, and Bishop with him.
  • Part 2 - X-Men 40
Legion appears in the past in the hospital where Charles Xavier and Erik Lesherr work.  He momentarily forgets what he is doing, but when Erik touches him his memories return.  He begins to threaten Erik, and Erik calls for Charles to help.
  • Part 3 - Uncanny X-Men #321
Jean and Cable valiantly tries to contact their friends into the past.  Unfortunately the 4 X-Men don't remember what they are doing either.  At the last moment, Cable is able to contact the X-men and remind them of their mission.
  • Part 4 - X-Men 41
The X-Men finally reach Charles and Erik fighting with Legion.  however a brief moment and Legion knocks out the X-Men.  Legion grabs Erik and vows to change the world.  Legion's psychic knife forms.  As he lashes down, Charles jumps between Legion and Erik.  The blade pierces Charles, killing him.  Legion screams in pain.  He has killed his past therefore he now ceases to exist!  The X-Men as well cease to exist disappearing into the air.  However only Bishop survives, who is already a man outside of time.  Erik is left clenching his fallen friend.
